Press Release

NEW MINISTER AT SEAFORD BAPTIST CHURCH

Seaford Baptist Church has been without a minister since January 2016 but they will be welcoming their new minister, Rev Andy Machin, with an Induction Service on Saturday 23rd September at 2.30pm.

Andy was called into Baptist ministry 16 years ago after 19 years working for a major UK bank. His previous churches were in Essex and Bristol. As Andy and his wife Liz come from the West of England their Baptist Association’s Regional Minister, Rev Gary Woodall, will preach at the service. Gary used to be the Minister at Seaford and people are delighted to be welcoming him again. The Induction will be conducted by Rev Paul Kerley, one of the South East Baptist Association’s Regional Ministers.

The Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex and a number of local councillors plan to be at the service as will representatives from other churches and the wider community. A group from Andy's previous church is coming to share in the occasion.

The family of Seaford Baptist Church is very much looking forward to celebrating this special event with so many people. Everyone is welcome. Said Andy: “I am really looking forward to building on the existing community work that SBC is involved in, including the new initiative at The Kabin in Cradle Hill.” “I love introducing people to Jesus, and I’m passionate about church being in the community, working in partnership with others who are community builders. Together, we will seek to meet the practical and spiritual needs of the people of Seaford.”

Andy is married to Liz and they have 2 daughters who both live and work in London. He enjoys walking their cocker spaniel, and watching and occasionally playing sport. He’s also been part of a community choir in Bristol.

SBC has been without a minister for 18 months but during that time it has not stood still, and members have stepped up to the mark to make sure that the essential work has continued. Most importantly, much time has been spent in exploring the way forward for the church and a consensus has been reached about the desire to work together as a team to take the church into the community. This matches the aspirations of their new Minister.

Please come along on the weekend of 23rd/24th September to meet Andy. He will preach at the 10 a.m. Service on 24th.

Our very own Gabby Tofts, with Christian Funnell, has designed and built the first part of the Seaford Community Bench on the Jetty at Splash Point.
The Opening by the Lord Lieutenant and Mayor is at 12.30 for 1.00 on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Town Crier regrets he cannot be there, so it will be a joyful but more peaceful occasion!
